THE Ekiti State Government has disclosed that about 515,531 children between 9 and 59 months old would be immunised in the state under the Integrated Measles Campaign scheduled to hold between January 28 and February 1 this year.
The Director, Primary Health Care, Ministry of Health, Ekiti state, Dr. Joshua Ileke, made the disclosure yesterday in Ado Ekiti, at a media orientation workshop.
He said the 5-day immunization would take place in over 300 government’s-owned health facilities as well as selected sites such as churches, mosques, markets and schools and would be administered by 6,202 health workers and community members.
While appealing for journalists’ cooperation in sensitising the public, Ileke, lamented that Nigeria is among the countries having high number of measles cases in the world and second in Africa.
Ileke recalled that measles outbreak was lower in 2014 due to aggressive campaign against the disease in 2013.
