Dare Bejide Joins Ekiti 2018 Governorship Race

Former Nigerian ambassador to Canada, Chief Dare Bejide on Sunday declared his intention to contest next year’s Ekiti state governorship election.

Bejide who was also a former Secretary to Ekiti State Government, (SSG) during the administration of former governor Segun Oni said at a news conference in Ado Ekiti that he would be contesting the poll under the platform of his party, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

He said he was convinced that he was the best candidate for the state’s number one job, considering his intimidating credentials and exposure.

According to him, his many years of vast contributions to community development, in terms of projects planting across the nooks and crannies of the state also stands him out from the crowd of those that had so far shown interest to contest the gubernatorial poll.

Bejide attributed the backwardness of some of the states in Nigeria to the inadequacies as well as ill-equipped nature of those at the helm of affairs, saying he hoped to bring his public sector governance experience to bear in turning Ekiti state around in no distant time.

He said he hoped to make a formal declaration in June this year while full blown campaign would follow immediately INEC lifts embargo on electioneering campaigns.

This came as a former Editor with the Nigerian Tribune and immediate past Chief of Staff,(COS) during the administration of former governor Kayode Fayemi of APC, Chief Yemi Adaramodu, said it was too early for him to be talking about the poll which is still more than a year away from now.

He said the question as to whether he would contest the governorship race in 2018 resides majorly on the people of the state and his political leaders.

He said his concern now is to ensure that the prevailing peace in the state is sustained .
