The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has pledged that there will be no imposition of candidate or impunity in its conduct of the Ekiti State governorship primary scheduled for May 8 .
The National Organising Secretary of the party , Col . Austin Akobundu (retd . ), made the pledge when he separately received the nomination and indication of interest forms from two governorship aspirants on Friday in Abuja .
The aspirants who picked up their forms were Senator Abiodun Olujimi , representing Ekiti South District in the Senate ; and the Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Kolapo Olusola .
Olujimi was also a former deputy governor of the state .
Akobundu said that the mandate given to the party ’ s National Working Committee was sacred and would be demonstrated in the conduct of the Ekiti governorship primary .
He also warned the aspirants and their supporters to ensure that the governorship election coming up on July 14 was free, fair and credible .
He said , “ I want to assure you that there will not be an imposition of candidate or impunity . We will respect the people ’ s wish , expectations and aspirations as part of the mandate given to us is to do what is right . The guidelines of the party have stipulated the process to follow ; we will follow it .
“ I assure you that the primary will be free , fair and credible in Ekiti State , which is the first state we are going to conduct the primary . ”
