Ekiti to Improve Cleanliness
Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Bisi Kolawole has charged market women in the state to be more active in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in order to guarantee cleaner market environments .
Chief Kolawole who gave the charge during an interactive meeting with market women in his office in Ado Ekiti, lamented their failure to fully participate in the monthly exercise, adding that he called the meeting to enable them rub minds and fashion out ways on how to maintain proper sanitation in the markets.
Stressing the determination of the Fayose administration to maintaining a clean and healthy environment, the Commissioner added that government would continue to sensitize the people on the importance of keeping their environment clean, safe and beautiful.
He emphasized that additional days should be set aside in market places apart from the conventional last Saturday of every month, for sanitation exercise due to the high volume of waste generated in the markets.
The Commissioner assured that the Waste Management Authority would regularly and effectively dispose waste generated in the markets .
According to him, regular clean up of drainages and gutters in and around market environments would prevent outbreak of avoidable epidemic.Kolawole advised market women to take advantage of government’s good intention as a a clean environment would ultimately protect them from avoidable health challenges.
Responding, the President of the State Association of Market Women, Chief Waye Oso pledged on behalf of the traders to conduct the environmental sanitation exercise forthrightly in all the market places in the state capital.
Chief Oso however appealed to the State government to assist in ensuring compliance and punishing any erring trader.
