The governor says his visit is not to take a loan – He says it is to secure technical opportunities for his state.
A few days after criticizing President Muhammadu Buhari for his trip to China, Governor Ayodele Fayose has also travelled to the same country.
Governor Fayose who criticized the President’s trip to the country also travelled to China for the 119th import and export fair which is also known as the Canton fair. The fair is to take place in Guangzhou and scheduled for Thursday, April 14 till Tuesday, April 19.
Premium Times reports that Lere Olayinka who is the media aide to Governor Fayose in justifying the trip said on Tuesday, April 12 that the governor had only travelled out of Nigeria twice since he took over office in 2014.
He said the China trip had been planned six months ago and would be Fayose’s third trip outside Nigeria.
Olayinka said the trip would be used to secure partnership with prospective Chinese investors and technical experts. He argued that the trip was different from Buhari’s own in the sense that he wasn’t going to take any loan.
He said the governor would hold talks with “prospective investors on mechanized farming, experts in skill acquisition, particularly training in the area of perfect finishing in building construction as well as experts in auto-repairs and modern technologies.”
According to him, “the Canton fair, held biannually in Guangzhou every spring and autumn, with a history of 59 years since 1957, attracts various types of business activities such as economic and technical cooperation and exchanges.”
He explained that Fayose was planning an artisan village in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital and would therefore use the fair to hold talks with technical experts on training and technological exchange programmes. (Naij)
