A middle-aged man, Simeon Daniel, and 14 others were, on Friday, arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing electric cables belonging to Afe Babalola University (ABUAD).
Police prosecutor Sgt. Caleb Leranmo told the court that the accused committed the offence last month at ABUAD campus within the Magisterial District.
According to him, the accused conspired to commit felony to wit, break store and stole property not belonging to them.
He said the suspects committed an offence, which contravened Section 516 of Criminal Code Cap. C16 Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti.
Leranmo alleged that the accused also committed an offence by conspiring to commit felony, to break and enter a container, property of ABUAD, thereby committing an offence contravening Section 413 (1) of Criminal Code Cap. C16 Vol. 1 Laws of Ekiti.
He told the court the accused stole electric wires, valued at N2.9 million, property of ABUAD in the course of their action.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 390 of the Criminal Code Cap. C16 Vol.1 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. Their counsel Ayokunle Okunade prayed the court to admit them to bail on compassionate grounds.

The Chief Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, admitted the accused to bail each on N200,000 and one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till October 28 for further hearing.
