Students of the Ekiti State University yesterday protested what they called persistent motorcycle accidents involving some of them.
It was gathered that the crisis started on Tuesday evening when students and commercial motorcyclists engaged in hot argument leading to exchange of blows.
It was gathered that the students had insisted that the commercial motorcyclists must treat a student earlier hit by one of them during an accident, which the riders agreed to but never did, and the students took to the streets yesterday chanting solidarity songs and barricading the major highways for many hours.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sam Oye Bandele, it was gathered, tried to pacify the students but they refused until policemen dispersed them with tear gas and gun shots.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adeyemi Alberto, confirmed the crisis but said no student was arrested as alleged, and that normalcy had since returned to the school.
