The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has arrested a fake medical doctor in Ekiti state and also shut down the hospital named ‘Divine Citadel Health Centre’ where his illegal operation was being carried out.
The medical body while disclosing this at the weekend in Ado Ekiti also vowed to hand over the ‘doctor ‘to the police for prosecution as parts of efforts to curtail quackery in medical practice in the state.
Addressing journalists in Ado Ekiti in commemoration of the 2016 Physicians’ Week, the doctors also raised alarm over increasing incidences of hypertension and diabetes among Ekiti residents.
They said screening conducted on some residents recently in commemoration of the 2016 Physicians’ Week indicated that the diseases are becoming endemic.
The Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Sunday Omoya, said the fake doctor who was operating his ‘clinic’ in Ajilosun area of the capital city was arrested after his certificates were found to have been forged.
Omoya called for the implementation of the National Health Acts 2014 by the federal government, to make access to standard healthcare service a compulsion for every Nigerian and for the achievement of universal health coverage in the country.
