Protest in Ekiti as Lunatic Hacks Monarch to Death

There was violent protest in Odo Oro Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area (LGA) of Ekiti State monday following the killing of the Onise of Odo Oro Ekiti, Oba Gbadebo Ogunsakin, by a lunatic.

This incident is coming as a man identified as Chinasa Nnorom has allegedly killed his wife, Mrs. Juliet Ogbodo during a fight in Nnewi, Anambra State.
The incident, according to a source in the town, occurred in the early hours of monday when the mentally-deranged man mysteriously entered the palace and murdered the monarch.

THISDAY gathered that the late Oba Ogunsakin ascended the throne of “Onise” of Odo-Oro-Ekiti in 1986.
The death sparked off violent protest in the town as youths trooped out to show their grievances over the gory incident.
The suspect was said to have escaped into the bush after committing the crime and was being trailed by the youths and security agencies.

Some of the residents of community, who spoke to journalists, said the traditional ruler was stabbed with knife shortly after holding a council meeting with his chiefs.
A resident of the town, Henry Olu, said the lunatic , whose name was only given as Kunle, belonged to the the royal dynasty of the slain traditional ruler.
He said the suspect was earlier caught by some chiefs before the council’s meeting sitting on the traditional throne of his victim and was chased away.

Another source said the traditional ruler was attacked as soon as he concluded the community council meeting and was trying to board his official car from his palace to his resident.
“All we heard was a cry for help from the traditional ruler’s driver shortly after the council’s meeting.
“On getting there, we saw our traditional ruler in a pool of blood, as Kunle had stabbed him with knife in the chest.

“We tried rushing him to the hospital, but Oba Ogunsakin gave up the ghost,” the source said.
Kunle was said to have fled into a nearby bush after committing the crime.
